Welcome to the final DelPHR Palestinian Human Rights Briefing of this legislative session. In it, we focus on some of the institutions which are implicit to and implicated in the state of the human and civil rights situation for Palestinians. The ones which, when working well, are the glue that holds a society together—such as healthcare and education—and those—like the military and the carceral system—that when compromised wreak havoc, and deprive residents of both life and liberty.
We have compiled a selection of articles and essays, current events and personal insight from on-the-ground that all expand upon and illuminate these structures. The writing and videos offer glimpses into a few of the institutions critical to Palestinian human rights, how they are holding up, and what it is like to try to live life in the rubble left behind by US-supplied Israeli bombs in Gaza, behind the gates and through the armed checkpoints that fragment and upend life in the West Bank.
